TIG Welding Rod Rack, Speed Tacking, Chill Blocks, and a cool homemade tool

TIG Welding Rod

Speed tacking involves setting amperage to 30-50 percent higher than normal welding amperage. Then using a torch switch or foot pedal, use very quick blasts of half a second or less to fusion tack weld.
this makes for very quick tack welding that is clean and free from oxidation.

Aluminum Chill blocks are handy for pulling heat out of sheet metal parts. So worth the effort.

A home made tool can be easily made from a cheap screwdriver and some silicon bronze tig rod.

For limiting heat input on thin stainless sheet metal, try these settings…

1 to 1.5 pulses per second
20% pulse time
20% background current

  1. Hi Jody, huge ups to you for the consistently high quality topic content, awesome arc control skills and great clear arc shots. Ive been a welder for 30 years and just love watching how stable & controlled your arc is, very envious( my Aussy mate would call it sickening, in a good way though).
I too try to get my students to follow your weekly posts as I have found them & you to be a mine of information that is clear & easy for us welder types to understand. Keep up the good work, love to view the deals on the weldmonger store but freight to NZ makes thing a bit pricey. Do you have a dealer in this part of the world as Im trying to gather our students to buy tig fingers and spread the freight costs between them.

Ditto on Bill comment , I follow you weekly and still pick up a few new tricks. I started gas welding in the mid 50’s and progressed to sticking the early 60’s and bought my first tig machine in late 60’s a Lincoln Ideal Arc 300′ then in the late 70’s bought a mig. I was fortunate to have a good friend that was a sales rep. and later he ran the repair shop for a Big 3 Welding Supply. And another good friend who worked for Jackson and Airco. I learned a lot from these men and could get a question answered any time.
I have a good friend that teaches Welding at Eastfield Comunity College in Dallas and he requires all his students to subscribe to your site.
Truth is you have taught a OLD DOG new tricks, I thank you for that.Frank

  3. Jody, your videos are a never miss for me. Value to me is over the top and I will continue purchases from your store.

  4. Hello Jody, sure there are many choices on You-Tube for welding videos but YOU are HANDS DOWN the BEST of them all.Your knowledge, background and experience level are all put together very concisely in every video you do Jody without talking too much. Equally impressive are your arc shots and the very professional quality of your videos in general. I am always comparing yours to ALL the others (vice versa actually), including even from the big name welding corporations that come in the colors red and blue and YOU set the standard for quality welding videos and I thank you for that again Jody. In fact, as a subscriber each time your weekly pops up on my smart phone I say Thanks Again Jody !! A purchase from your Weldmonger Store is soon to follow this week, I assure you. Best wishes, Bill A.
