Cutting Torch Tips

Cutting Torch Tips

A week or so ago, someone was kind enough to send me a tip on a book they bought that really helped them. The book is called “Welding Pocket Reference” by Audel.

So I ordered it from Amazon to see if it is something I could recommend.

Its a pretty hand little book…and small enough for the tool box. Another good one is the Hobart Pocket welding book.

I also got an email last week asking for a video on using a cutting torch along with proper setup and shutdown.

What the heck do these things have to do with one another?

  1. Another good pocket reference is The Pipe Fitter’s And Pipe Welder’s Handbook by Thomas W. Frankland. I was first introduced to this book in the ’70s and it has not changed at all even today. If you are doing any kind of pipe fitting (the old fashion way) with a straight edge, tape measure, and wrap around, then this is a really good book. It can also be used by structural welders as well as it has all kind of reference and conversion tables as well as teaching you trig as to do with pipe fitting. And it is small enough to fit in your back pocket. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your tips and tricks and watch them regularly.

  2. Hi there . Really enjoying your Welding tuition. I had some experience of copper to copper, and copper to brass Brazing.

One thing i recall regarding Acetelene is that it is soluble in water. So if you get a leak on a bottle(assuming it is uncoupled) you can stick it under water to render it safe.

I am fairly lucky in that i have good access to scrap from a local yard, i turn up every couple of months.

I have precticed stick welding this far and am progressing nicely. I am now practicing 3g and then 4g and eventually i will try 6G.

I realise that there is no substitute for experience and practice before hand, but i hope to get to a standard that i can get some welding work and get coded.

Your site is without doubt the best welding tution and rsource site i have seen.
    Thanks
and keep up the great work.

    Regards

    John
