This is the video on the “slider job”.
Sometimes, no matter what you are doing, a job slides in that takes priority over all the rest. Thats why we call it a “Slider”
It could be chopping blade for the 35 year old ice chopper down the street is split and parts are unavailable.
It might be a spun bearing at the water bottling plant nearby who is losing thousands of dollars for every hour the machine is down.
You get the drift…when you are in business, there are hot jobs and some are hotter than others.
I am not saying its good to respond to every single fire but it can be a good opportunity to build trust and retain customers. As long as you set boundaries and they know you cant jump thru hoops for them all the time.
So this little slider job was just a simple stainless steel bracket made from solid bar stock. It didnt need to be , it could have easily served the purpose being made out of hollow tubing , but it was solid.
the parts it bolted to were only sheet metal so the thickness was overkill.
But…our job that day was to make 2 parts just like the sample….our job was not to re engineer the part.
So that is exactly what we did.
I tack welded the pieces using the fixture kit and precision welding table and it literally tool about 5 minutes to set up and tack weld.
after that, I welded the 2 pieces using 2 different welding techniques….
The dip technique and …
The lay wire technique.
Its better seen than explained so just watch the video showing the 2 different tig welding techniques and think where you might utilize each one.
At the bottom of this page is a follow up video that is a serious shameless plug for my Tig Finger. But it is also an instructional video.
Thats because If you were to look at my DNA strand under a microscope it would look like this…
T..E..A..C..H..E..R.
It seems that I subconsciously try to teach something in every video. Does that mean I think I know everything? Do I have an ego problem? or is it just habit after teaching for many years?
One thing I do know is that I appreciate it when someone offers me good and concise information for free. So that is what I do… I know how this world works… In order to get something, you have to give something.
So …I am giving some information and good instructive arc shots hoping that you will see how a Tig Finger can help you.
The rest is up to you…Is it worth a few bucks to Tig Weld better? Its up to you to decide.

Hi Jody, love your videos. I have a question for you. I repair alot of heavy equip like backhoe buckets an dump truck beds , I use 7018 rods, my question is, what mig wire is as strong as a 7018. It wouid save alot of time to use my mig but im worried that it might not be as strong. I use er70s-6 in my mig now. Im just looking for wire thats low hydgrogen an strong like 7018. Thanks for any help. Brian also any help on feeding the tig filler wire. I seem to not be able to get a even feed wearing my gloves.

ER70-6 is low hydrogen as it has no flux coating to absorb moisture. Hope this helps…Paul

Well Jody, your teaching videos are very clear, well job, and thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us.
Your tig fingers are so good too, I´m from Chile and I bought some of it, they are a great help for keeping your fingers cold when welding. This videos shows us the truth. I´ve never been burned.
Keep teaching us with your videos !!!!
Greetings from Chile.
