Hi Jody, I think your videos are great and cover every aspect of welding in laymans terms. One problem I have been having lately is seeing where the arc is going and sometimes run off the joint completely. I tried different helmets (auto darkening and fixed lens types) and that didn’t help much. My glasses seem OK because I have no trouble reading, but they are transitional lens and wonder if this is causing my problem. I tried cheater glass from a drug store and 2x magnifiers in my helmet, but not much better. If I can’t see where I’m going I make a complete mess of the weld and have to grind it off and start over again. I’m 71 years and hate to give up welding because I’m working on a project truck that I put off for years for 20 years because I was raising a family. Now I have time but can’t weld. Any ideas or help would deeply be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Ernie Christopher
Jodie , can you give any comparison or tips on migging stainless , about 1/2 inch thick ? It can be tough keeping the spatter down. It doesn’t just scrape off like carbon. And if you are dealing with polished material you can spend many hours and consumables getting it back. Tig is clean but then you have to deal with the heat which means shrinkage. Open for any suggestions.
Thanks for the series Jody I’ve been following your websites for a long time now and always find your Videos enjoyable and educational. I’ve been using your tig finger on all my tig work which I really find helpful. your mig series was very helpful on setting wire speed versus metal thickness . Thanks for your continued efforts
Hi Jody – When you stub a contact tip like you showed take a tip cleaner and clean out the end. If you have a set of long cleaners it also works to clean a bad tip if you are out of tips.
I have to reply to the ending, I laughed my socks off, both you and your lovely wife are true comedians. It was such a surprise and really delightful.
I truly appreciate you work and I learn so much.
Many thanks,
John Gardner

Don’t know what I would do without having your videos to set me straight on real world situations!
Thanks!

Me to, I loved the ending bit. I bet they are great companions. I wish I could meet him in the flesh.
