Welding for over 35 years, the last 31 have been in the food service manufacturing industry, (GTAW, SMAW)prior to that in the chemical engineering/nuclear fabricating industry (GTAW, GMAW, SMAW). Jodi your videos are very informative. Your personality and teaching style attest to your experience and competence. Well done. Your contribution is entertaining and even more so, usefull. Sorry to butt in Kirk. It was metalgeek.com which showed the coping, or saddle cuts. Another Product worth looking at is PipeMaster tools. I’m not affiliated with PipeMaster is any way whatsoever. They are not Cheap, but these are worth looking at. I have to take my hat off to You lot in America. You make the BEST Engineering Tools. I bought a set. Dan.
Hi Jody, As always I learn something new from your videos and they are tremendously improving my welding. Can you elaborate on how much gas you use when tig welding how much you stick the tungsten out on your gas lense .Is there a max length that you can stick the tungsten out before stuff starts to get messy?
Thank You
HI, Just a note to say thanks for doing these videos,
Mcmaster, mcnichols.com, may have perforated copper sheet.
I have been real frustrated on finding small small quantities of metals also.
May have to make it by hand a small piece would not be to bad…
Question Has anyone used this tool? Stilo hand-held Tungsten Electrode sharpener.
Been welding TIG for about only a year so I’m sharping a lot.
Hi Glenn. I have just purchased two of these Stilo tungsten sharpeners from a seller in Quebec. I’m in Australia, & am waiting on delivery. I will let you know as soon as I take delivery. I bought from eBay. They cost $40C each. Power operated Tungsten sharpeners cost $900AU in Australia. Dan
Hi Jody. Just wanted to say hello from Australia. I’m a Qualified Boilermaker/welder for 18 years. I am Certified in Solid Wire & Flux Core Mig, & Stick Welding. I have never TIG welded in my life. Always had an interest, just didn’t know where to start. Now I’m up & going. I have stopped hanging around the ” Boiler Shop Bluff Talkers” & I am Friends with My Foreman. I have Purchased Your Videos, TIG Fingers, CK stubby kit, & mag tabs. I have introduced 2% Lanthanated Tungsten to a Very Critical Fab Shop. These Men Swear by Thoriated Tungsten, until I brang in the Blue tips. I have showed your videos to an Old Timer HeliArc, level 9 Tradesman. I am using Welding Lingo He had never heard. They all said ” You can’t learn to weld from YouTube. I say I can. I had become totally frustrated with steel Fabrication. Now I have a new lease on life. Instead of Complaining about the Management, we all talk about welding now. I have made contact with the J.F.Lincoln Foundation, Swag Off Road, CK Worldwide, Lagesse LaSquare, & Hobart Brothers. Thanks Mate
where to you get the perforated copper sheet in small quantities? I tried one with steel and it worked OK, until the third weld when I welded it to the joint.
Hi Jody great video as always. I am wondering why does the magnet affect the puddle? I thought ferrous metals lose their attraction to magnets at just over 900F? What is in the arc that would make it wander in a magnetic field? It’ seems that the metal around the arc would be close to 900 F and the puddle is way over that so any information you could give would be great.
Jody – can I use 75/25 gas from my mig for the back side shielding gas while tig welding..I do not have two bottles of argon? Your tig fingers are great..I use them almost all the time..saves the fingers and pays for themselves saving gloves. My welding has greatly improved from watching your videos..keep them coming.
Hi Jody,
I have been TIG welding for over 30 years now and mig welding for 40 years.
I learn something every time I watch your videos. Some I have watched over and over.
You can actually teach old dogs new tricks.
Keep up the great videos, I look forward to seeing more.
Any chance you could do some brass welding on yacht propellers?
Made of naval bronze and or manganese bronze and lo fuming bronze.
Love all of your videos.Am a CERTIFIED 62 year old stick welder.Plan on getting a HOBART 230 mig welder when I can get enough money for it,( $2000 dollars ).
Would also like to see your wife stick weld.
My son stick welds, but he doesn’t take his time.He calls his welds,Bird crap welds.
Started welding 35 years ago, eventually ended up changing careers several times and now getting back into welding. Funny how things take longer when you’re old… I loved welding then, and I love it now. Anyway, I very much appreciate the time and effort you put into the videos. Best to you & Smokin’ Hot! Take care! Lee
Jody-just want you to know how much I appreciate your website.started welding only 5 years ago at the ripe old age of 55.most of what I have learned about welding has been from watching your videos.tigged my own roll cage in my race car and have been complemented on it by the NHRA chassis cert guy! pretty awesome that a guy takes the time out of his day to pass on his knowledge to others! looking forward to the next video.thanks again.

Thanks for the metal preparation tips. As a self guided beginner, it seems that everyone takes it for granted how to prep various metal for welding.
