Jim cook. You are right about that welding will learn only by welding. I have passed my tig, and stick 6g pipe test and bunch of other tests. The real challenge is to weld every day and situations at that level. I pretty much learn pipe welding whit my own and there Jodys arc shots and lay wire or (keyhole) technicues come handy i couldent find this stuff anywhere else.? I just say that whit lots of training and a real intrest. This site will definetly give you some nolige what is explained good and you can use it to become better in welding.
JIM COOK. IF YOU ARE SO TRAINED “WELDER” PLEASE MAKE FOR US A BETTER VIDEOS THEN JODY DOES.. FOR FREE TO ALL OF US. HES GIVEN SO MUCH INFO OF WELDING WHAT I WOULDENT KNOW ONLY BY MAKING MISTAKES FIRST.. YOU CAN LOOK A “BETTER” MENTOR FOR YOU ON YOUTUBE;) JIMBO. BY: ALEKSI 86
If you want to learn how to Weld< MIg/MAG. TIG MMA. Enroll at a Training Collage on a one to one instructor Basis. Take the ASME 9 code 6G Tests, that will also make you qualified to be employed on Class 1 Fabrication. To get to that level will take about 6-10 months It's a lot of work but if you are really keen DO IT!! You will not Learn from Videos. Class 1 Welding is a highly skilled hand craft. The Hand/Eye cordination required is about the same as a Pilot of a fast Jet. At it's best An Art form. Class one 6g pipe is the basic standard. In the UK over the next 10 years they need 20,000 highly skilled welders for the construction of Power Stations, And the Uranium processing plant. Get over here when you pass and earn BIG BUCKS. When I was active as a Cratsman I had 17 approvals. I then went on to be a Lecturer in the last 5 years.
Teaching class 1. Advanced.
Only 10% of the students reached the pass standard. MMA. TIG. MIG.
The Brown & Root welding Boss At Grt Yarmouth in 1976 in the UK was Toby Van Morton.( a Texan) We had a welding contest in the yard on MIG Root, Fill & Cap on 20" gas main, he lost by a very small margin. but we became good pals. I sent him 4 of my top Welders who were all artists with MIG an MMA. Good times.
Keep up the practice. Regards To All Jim Cook
These stick welding videos I like the best. I use CIG 4311 for my root run & WIA 4818 cover pass. WIA Austarc are the smoothest rods, with the easiest slag removal. I also bought Forney 6011 which were ok. I bought Lincoln 7018, these are beautiful to use.
4818 is As/NZS, 7018 is AWS. 4311/4111 is AS/NZS, 6011 AWS.
I have taken a few tips from Jody. I bought that Audels book, I bought Lincoln’s Metals & How to weld them.
I even tried out the Accu Strike Chin operated welding mask.
I’m working the mid night shift tonight on New Years Eve. The life of a solo Welder.
If Anyone in Australia wants to buy the Tig Finger or Tig Finger XL, I offer the Absolute best prices on eBay.
Happy New Year. Thanks Mate.
I would say that your AMPS are too high by 20 amps. Spatter all over. what a mess.I started
in 1948 as an Apprentice. at 30 I was on Research & development with the UK Atomic Energy Co. I trained welders who then went to Brown & Root Offshore. I met Jim West No1 for Brown and root. He asked me to Join B&R as Global Trouble shooter. So I have a wee amount of experience.
