309 Tig rods are designed for welding stainless steels to carbon steels…but they are a good rod to have in your shop because 309 is a very versatile rod…good for welding pretty much any steel to any other steel in a pinch.
not necessarily the absolute best all around choice…and it shouldn’t be used indiscriminately…but 309 will usually get the job done.

I have stripped the flux off 309 stick rod and used in a pinch, works good just make sure “all” flux is off.

There may be a lot of other videos out there, but I am 110% sure you KNOW what you are talking about. I watch your videos faithfully!
Thanks! (PS I have your tig finger, both sizes, and they really do work.)

Hi Jody, Thanks for the Info.
Comment in talking with some older welders in the past,I was told to use 312 stainless rod, and I have used a lot of stick 312 doing repair and jigs, just got some TIG rod the few mouths ago to try.
Anyway, what are you thoughts on using 312 stainless rod.
PS also #82 rod.
