Last week’s video was a 3g mig test.
Today, it’s overhead….or 4g.
In my humble opinion, a short stickout, enough current, and gun angle are the keys to welding a 4g overhead mig test joint.

Recently someone asked for a demo on welding a 3g test plate using bare wire mig.
I had some scrap plates that had already been welded but with 37.5 deg bevels on the outside so I figured I would carry on with last weeks video on using a cutting torch by cutting the old test plates.
A week or so ago, someone was kind enough to send me a tip on a book they bought that really helped them. The book is called “Welding Pocket Reference” by Audel.
A few weeks ago, I built some small steel parts that will be used by a commercial aircraft overhaul facility.
Aluminum Welding with TIG is a bit harder than with steel.
Aluminum is more conductive and has an aluminum oxide skin that can throw you some curves.
