This week’s video is about welding aluminum butt joins in 2G horizontal position.

Shielding gas and torch angle are the 2 big things that make the most difference.

Too little gas won’t let the cleaning action work… Too much gas makes penetration difficult and makes for a noisy erratic arc.

And by the way… That slight angle I put in the joints after tack welding is just for the sake of practice.. To add some rigidity to those small practice plates.

  1. Welding aluminum (and most anything else…) has always been difficult for me. Many thanks for the tips AND the time you take to let us know all the settings on the machine you used. Without that information it is very difficult for a noob to even get started… Thanks Jody!!!

Love the PIP! Need some of your foot pedal action, just saying. Great video like always and thanks for the PIP action!

  3. very helpful. But i’m having a issue. I am welding a single fillet bead in the 3 and 4g position for a break test on 5000 series aluminum 3/8THK T Bar with 5356 Tig wire 1/8 also using a Dynasty 200 dx Miller tig machine. Using 100% Argon with 25 on the flowmeter, Heat on 200 amps balance up to 65 and frequency just over 100 Ive tried different settings and All the same results. When bent on the press each toe on the root looks like they havent burned in but the face of the bead looks flawless. I have went through 6 different tbars on various settings. The settings I listed above had the best results with about 50% burned in good. And I cleaned each tbar and tig wire with acetone and use a ss wire brush to clean also. Would preheating the plates in a oven or with torch help? Any feedback would help Thanks and I enjoy your videos keep them coming.
