This is part 2 of the aluminum intake manifold welding project.
A little thick to thin welding…
And a tip for getting good smooth penetration when there are gaps.
Its difficult to get even smooth penetration on the back side of aluminum when there is a gap.
But by sealing the gap with a small cold bead first…
And then going back over the cold bead with a penetration pass…its much more likely to be smooth on the back side.

Excellent job, as usual.
Heads Up: I want to mention something about the flex-lock torch. I was practicing welding beads on a flat aluminum plate at about 120 amps, letting the plate cool some at times. I noticed a plastic burning smell and figured I was burning something on the table. After finishing that bead I looked at the torch and some of the head by the lock down knob had started to melt. I figure it was from the radiant heat off the plate, as the current was below the rated amount. The torch now is sort of customized, but still works fine, a little longer in the heat and I would be getting a new one.
