Aluminum Intake project part 3 and done

Aluminum Intake

This is the final video in the series on tig welding an aluminum intake manifold.

1. I had to get a simple fixture to locate the fuel injector bungs so that they would fit to the fuel rail.
2. its handy to have a few drill press vises to hold odd shaped parts.
3. if you have a gap in aluminum sheet, sometimes it helps to do a cold pass and follow it up with a penetration pass.

  1. I’m just starting to weld Tig ,I’m having problems with starting arc on the 6 O’Clock position, with scratch start tig.. Thank You…….

  2. Hi Jody
I am a novice Jody taught welder. I started tig welding with a low end miller.. I then bought Lincoln precession tig 375 and welded with that for about 2 years . I have never been to any formal class ,just subscribed to your channel and practiced a lot . I recently welded up a aluminum ice fish house that my cousin bought . I was fabricated and welded with a spool gun and the guy did a terrible job , I had to weld over a large portion of the fish house .. It was a huge lesson in tig welding dirty aluminum at all angles
My shop just burned to the ground ruining my welder and all accessories. I am now looking for a new welder . One thing I noticed with my welder is vary little of the controls crossed from my welder to the ones you used.. I am looking for a tig and stick welder.. I do weld some heavy aluminum so it has to have some balls. Is there a welder that you would recommend over the precision tig 375 ?

  3. Jody, I have a small weld/fab shop in Iowa and watch your videos as time permits,
Good Stuff!. My Question is I do a lot os stainless steel welding for the food industry and i am getting more and more people bringing me aluminum castings,
9x out of 10 dirty with years of soaked oil in the pores. could you show a video, If you haven’t already on how to clean before welding? I’ve heard of guys baking it for hours to bring out the oil and contaminates? I guess what i’m asking is what about us guys who don’t always get to weld on clean shiny aluminum?

He Jody still turning those very informative welding video’s out really enjoy the content. was wondering could you do some video’s on tig welding using silicone bronze filler rod on various metals. Once again your video’s a great learning tool cheers.bert

  5. Great job! Idk where ur shop is, but I want to visit one day😉

  6. Love your videos. I have taken some welding courses over the years, usually at a community collage but the instructor invariably sets you up and sez practice—-period. Nor much help, I can practice at home. I butt welded two pieces of 3/16 6061 with tig. Beautiful weld but the weld cracked down the middle =. I showed the piece to the instructor and asked why? His response “Don’t know!” I had butted pieces together with no gap and I had not beveled the edges. Guess what?

Thanks again for the great videos.
